Description |
Attach this generator to a thermal vent to generate free electricity. Lookout for smoker rocks and destroy them to reveal thermal vents. |
The GeoCorp Geothermal Generator is a grade 1 power block manufactured by GeoCorp. Like all GeoCorp blocks, it can be crafted with a GeoCorp Fabricator.
It has 10 attachment point(s) and takes up 18 cell(s).
Usage[]
When properly anchored, the Geothermal Generator provides virtually limitless energy. For it to function, the Generator's anchor must be attached to a Geothermal Vent, which are only found in the Mountains. Geothermal Vents are similar to resource seams, except that they will have a much more obvious indicator - they are covered by extremely small mountain rocks, which emit small quantities of steam. When broken, pressurized steam will burst out of the vent, and it will continue to remain like that if no Geothermal Generator has been anchored on it.
Like all Generators, it has a small internal energy storage that allows other energy-consuming blocks to function. However, without anything to store it's power, they will easily shut down if their abilities come into play.
The Geothermal Generator is a powerful block for when it can be obtained. While it may not be tempting for players to set bases up in mountains early in the game, doing so can greatly enhance the durability of a base against enemy techs, and provide a much more reliable power source for even other allied techs, should wireless chargers become available. The energy supply rate is slow, so batteries are a must in order to maximize it's efficiency.
Multiple Geothermal Generators do appear to stack in the way similar to Autominers, but due to the size, it's difficult to place more than one on a single steam vent. Some vents have a sufficiently steep location that effectively blocks multiple generators.
One can use wireless chargers to hook up many of these generators for better power output and overall practicality when making bases in the Mountains biome.
Its charging rate is identical to 3 GSO tall solar generator (15000 power/min), meaning it can charge 10 GSO battery cells per minute.
Trivia[]
- The Geothermal Generator is the only one of its kind in the entire game, as no other block can harness Geothermal Energy.
- It is one of the two Geocorp Power blocks that generates energy, the other being the GeoCorp Anchored Furnace Generator.
- Theoretically, multiple Geothermal Generators can be stacked on one vent to increase the amount of electricity gained at no additional cost.
- Geothermal Generators behave very similarly to GSO Auto Miners which can also be stacked upon an underground resource seam, though this will drain the seam faster. It is then suggested that they are programmed in a similar way.
- There is a typo in the description: Attach this generator to a thermal vent to generate free electricity. Look out for smoker rocks and destroy them to reveal thermal vents.
