Description |
A good starting solar generator. It will convert sunlight into electricity whilst anchored, but becomes overburdened easily. |
The GSO Tall Solar Generator is a grade 1 power block manufactured by GSO. Like all GSO blocks, it can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.
It has 5 attachment point(s) and takes up 4 cell(s).
Usage[]
As to its namesake, this block only works during the day, and will automatically retract during the night. It can only function when anchored and has low charging power (75 energy per second), though multiple generators do stack additively. Without batteries, it can still power shields and repair bubbles, but the excess energy will be wasted instead of being converted to electricity, and shields/repair bubbles will not be sustainable if their abilities come into play or if night falls - They will simply shut down due to a lack of electricity.
It is usually a good idea to attach multiple high-capacity batteries (GeoCorp Battery Packs are ideal for bases, and it's an anchored block) to it and protect it with repair bubbles and shields, therefore maximizing the generator's ability during the day while sustaining it in the night. Power depots can be forged with just a few more chargers.
Even in the late game, the Tall Solar Generator can be very helpful to players. As stated before it's particularly useful for grounded, anchored bases due to its low cost and cell count, allowing it to be placed en masse.
The GSO Tall Solar Generator can function in any orientation, given the tech is anchored by something else, while its own anchor will only function in upright position. The panels being in the shade has no effect on the power output.
Trivia[]
- Despite the description suggesting that it's a 'Starting Solar Generator', other solar-based power blocks were not available before the Better Future Solar Panel was added. It is so far the only Solar Generator with an anchor.
- The GSO Tall Solar Generator first appears in a crater during the early stages of the game. The player is prompted to pick up the block and anchor it to the ground. This triggers an event that spawns a GSO Repair Bubble Projector, which can be attached to the generator and therefore allowing it to function.
- If an anchored tech becomes unanchored, the tall solar generators on it will collapse at the same time. However, when it becomes anchored again the solar generators will only expand one-by-one.
- When it contracts, this block takes only two cells. While this does not allow blocks to intersect with this empty space, weapons are able to shoot through it.
