Once powered up, this shield will protect you from enemy attack.

Archaeologist and self-styled Neo Yogi Guru, Joseph Core-Sample was one of the early pioneers of hard light drives, a key component in the creation of Bubble Shield systems. Although Core-Sample has stated that their original purpose was to protect dig sites and trenches from outside tampering or adverse weather. Core-Sample now lives an enigmatic lifestyle in his temple-like home (behind layers of Bubble Shields) where he, "pretends to be normal." Critics claim that he is just a disgruntled old hermit, but he refutes these claims, stating: "I hate it when other people assume or suggest that I am disgruntled. I am always totally gruntled!"

The GSO Shield Bubble Projector is a grade 2 Power block manufactured by GSO. Like all GSO blocks, it can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.

It has 4 attachment point(s) and takes up 1 cell(s).

Usage[]

This shield bubble has a diameter of 10 blocks.

The GSO Shield Bubble is rare to obtain early on, but it is also pretty powerful for its abilities: it is the third largest shield projector in the entire game. The other two are from Better Future and Hawkeye, whose radii are just slightly larger. It will cost huge quantities of energy to maintain, and even more when under fire. It prevents damage so it works better than a repair bubble, however, it's best to pair the two together when possible. The downside is that singular GSO Batteries are usually unable to allow it to withstand much sustained fire due to their low capacity, requiring either multiple batteries or higher capacity ones. Splash damage, typically from explosives, will pass through shields, however this is countered by placing shields further out or using larger ones. Early-game AoE weapons deal less damage, making it an excellent defense until viable alternatives can be obtained, or for crafts that care about energy efficiency.

Trivia[]

  • Despite the description stating that the shield generators can stop outside tampering and are considered impenetrable barriers, most shield bubbles still allow other blocks, resources, and even entire techs to pass through. They only block solid projectiles.
    • Additionally, it also mentions that originally shield bubbles were used as a defense against adverse weather, despite the fact that no weather has been present in game.
    • Layered shield bubbles do not grant increased protection over singular ones. An explosion will pass through the shield and damage all of them, causing the tech's power to deplete faster.
