The GSO Megaton Cannon is a grade 5 Weapon block manufactured by GSO. Like all GSO blocks, it can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.

It has 4 attachment point(s) and takes up 8 cell(s).

Usage

The Megaton is mounted on a turret that rotates slowly, which limits it's effectiveness against faster targets. However, it's decent fire rate (especially compared to weapons of a similar level), splash radius and projectile velocity partially makes up for it, as each hit packs a huge punch. It's also rather compact and versatile, able to be mounted on various positions that is otherwise impossible for other pieces of artillery. It's also moderately tough and inexpensive. All of these things combine to make it a very powerful and reliable weapon for all types of combat.

All in all, it's a solid workhorse that gets the job done. It may not fare well against agile enemies, but otherwise, even one will make some serious impact.

Trivia

• The GSO Megaton Cannon is a common weapon on advanced AI-controlled enemy Techs encountered later in the campaign.
• Invader techs will usually have several Megatons on board. In mid-early campaign, these can be an easy source of Proxima Dark before advanced fabrication is available.
• The Chinese translation simply refers to it as "巨炮", which can then be roughly translated to "Mega Cannon". A more literal translation would be "百万吨重炮", as Mega is the equivalent of 1 Million.
• Due to the shells being affected by gravity, the Megaton Cannon, the Gigaton Cannon, and the Three-Pound Cannon are capable of adjusting their projectile arc when attacking an enemy at longer ranges by increasing their firing angle. This makes them effective mortar substitutes under certain conditions.
• It does not employ any sort of teleportation technology, despite requiring a Proxima Dark to craft.
  • It may use said technology for its ammunition, as it is never seen dispensing spent shells unlike weapons such as the Venture Rapid Cannon.
• The Megaton Cannon is mentioned in the description of the HG1 Turret Cannon. Several things about this can be revealed in the lore:
  • The Megaton Cannon prompted Dr N. Greyswandir to develop another turret gun to rival the abilities of the Megaton Cannon, a weapon block now known as the HG1 Cannon Turret.
  • This weapon is designed by Dr. Glutton. He seems to be unsatisfied by it, as according to Greyswandir, "He was barking mad to think that he could build a better cannon. [SIC],
    • Ironically, the Megaton is superior to the HG1 in all aspects considering it's versatility.
