Description |
Roughly twice as powerful as the Megaton Cannon, but fires at half the speed. This cannon is bigger, heavier and tougher, but boy, does it go with a bang! |
The GSO Gigaton Cannon is a grade 5 Weapon block manufactured by GSO. Like all GSO blocks, it can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.
It has 8 attachment point(s) and takes up 32 cell(s).
Notes[]
The Gigaton is very unpopular with most Tech designs as it's too cumbersome, mainly due to its size and low DPS as well as the extra room it requires to rotate. Hence, it's almost never available for salvage and only acquired via crates. A few more Megatons taking the same space will have a higher DPS.
When not counting the room required and only by single units, the Gigaton is more powerful. This is the actual business if one does not want a lot of artillery weapons, but still able to pack a decent punch, or if the Megaton's placement gets in the way of the player's designs.
Despite being somewhat slower than HG1 Turret it manages to out-damage it, while being smaller.
Compared to the Hawkeye Type 45 Naval Gun, the Gigaton has slightly lower DPS (625) and fires slowly, but when it does it will be able to aim itself properly (unlike the Mk3 Battleship Cannon and the Big Bertha) and makes a huge impact. It also takes up less than half the space, making it efficient for tech designs. Therefore, the Gigaton is more suited to deliver massive, powerful hits, while still retaining the ability of a regular turret for versatility. Surely it can't even touch a medium tech, but that's easily compensated in most tech designs with it.
Trivia[]
- Due to the shells being affected by gravity, the Megaton Cannon, the Gigaton Cannon, and the Three-Pound Cannon are capable of adjusting their projectile arc when attacking an enemy at longer ranges by increasing their firing angle. This makes them effective mortar substitutes.
- Like certain turret guns, the Gigaton Cannon's sprite only takes up 16 cells technically, with the rest of it reserved for the cannon's rotation.
- The prefab name implies that the Gigaton is a variant of the Megaton.
