Description
The Alternator Conveyor is a special type of Conveyor that will send the items that reach it alternating different directions.

The GSO Alternator Conveyor is a manufacturing block, useful for splitting up chunks in a processing base.

It has 5 Attachment Points, one for every side except the top where the resource is held.

It, like all GSO blocks, can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.

Alternator[]

Alternator base

An example of how alternators can be used. This arrangement mines Celestian Crystal from the seam using a GSO Auto Miner. The crystal is then picked up, refined and split between being sold or being compacted into a GSO Celestian Block.

Alternator conveyors are useful for splitting up resource and component chunks in a processing base.

When an alternator pulls a chunk into its 'wide' green end it will send it either to its front end, right side end or left side end, where it will push it into a suitable receptacle if one is present. It will decide which direction to send the chunk in in order based on what direction it last sent it in. It sends its chunk in the order;

Front, Right, Left, (clockwise on the lamps)

When first placed, an alternator will first send a chunk to its front side if it can.

If an alternator cannot send its chunk in the direction it would first choose, it will hold the chunk until the way is clear, effectively blocking other directions from receiving resource, even if the way is free. Because of this, use it only if you know for sure there will be no resource jams on one of the lines (like supplying delivery cannons), or find another solution. If If there is only one possible output, it will only send chunks to that output. If there are no possible outputs, it will continue to hold its chunk.

Alternator block

Demonstration of how alternator can block both directions when only one of them gets blocked.

The lamps on top of an alternator are useful in determining what direction it will send a chunk next. A green arrow indicates that the alternator has a suitable input pointing into the correct side. A blue arrow indicates that the alternator has a suitable output on that side. A red arrow indicates the alternator has a suitable output on that side and will try to send its chunk to it.

Alternators can only hold one chunk at a time. They will not accept any more until their chunk can be sent somewhere else, which allows another to be admitted.
